Circular walk. 4.35 miles approx. Allow 2 hours Advisable to wear long trousers. Some fields may contain cattle.
Start on Church Street, Well with St Michael’s Church on your left. Go through the metal kissing gate and follow the public footpath sign until you exit from a second metal kissing gate. Turn right and follow the footpath around two sides of the field. At the corner there is a waymark to the right. Ignore this and follow the obvious track across a large field until you come to another track which will run from left to right before you.
Turn right and walk down the sloping track. Turn left before the woodland onto a track which runs between the field and woodland (with a pond beyond) and leads into Low Park Wood (or the Belt, as it is locally referred to).
Follow the track through the Belt. As you exit the Belt, the path forks. You must take the right-hand option then cross over Low Park Beck.
Keep left and follow the edge of the field for approx 90m. The beck will be on your left. Take a left through a grassy area until you see a stile. *There are no signs for this so be careful not to miss this left turn as it can be tricky to find at certain times of the year.
Take the stile into a large grass field which is partially divided by small trees and large bushes, these should be on your right. Walk straight ahead following this line of trees/bushes until you see another stile. There may be cattle in this field.
Take this stile and bear right and follow the edge of the field until you come to the corner. Exit this field by a gap in the hedge and turn left as indicated by the yellow marker sign.
Follow the field boundary with the field on your right. Turn right at the corner and walk to the edge of the field where you turn right again. There is a stream on your left and a footbridge.
Cross the footbridge and walk straight ahead following the edge of the field and yellow marker sign. You will pass farm buildings on your left and see a bungalow ahead. Exit the field through a gap in the hedge onto a road. (If you want to explore the pretty village of Snape, turn left).
To continue on this walk, turn right along Salmon Lane until you pass two bungalows on your right. The road bends here to the left. Follow the road and turn right at Low Park Farm. Cross a cattle grid. There may be cattle in this field. Continue following the farm track over a further cattle grid and through Oak Tree Cottage and Oak Tree Farm.
Join the road known as Long Lane. Turn right and walk along this road until you re-enter the village of Well. Walk up Church Street, St Michaels Church and Alms houses will be on your right. At the top of Church Street is the Milbank Arms.
