The Village of Well

What's on

Well is a small village in North Yorkshire situated between Snape, Bedale, Masham, West Tanfield and Nosterfield, with good links to the A1 and the larger market towns of Northallerton, Thirsk and Ripon. This ancient settlement together with the neighbouring village of Snape make up the Manor of Well and Snape. The village takes its name from St Michael’s Well which is found along Masham Lane and is one of the many springs that feeds the beck which runs through the village.

Well Scarecrow Trail 2023

Just a reminder that the trail will be taking place from 21 - 28 August inclusive. We do hope that as many as possible will take part - the theme this year is Disney!

If you are entering a scarecrow, please let us know by the end of the day on Thursday 17 August - by emailing wonderfulwell1@gmail.com with the following details:
  • The name and address of the entrant
  • The scarecrow's Disney character name

A map of all entries will be produced and will be available in the bus shelter and in the Milbank Arms, so that people can follow the trail.  There is a suggested minimum donation of £1.00

The entries will be judged on the afternoon of 21 August by Rev. Jane Ball, the recently installed Vicar of the Masham group of parishes, so scarecrows will need to be in place by then.

There will also be a prize of a £20.00 voucher for The Milbank Arms, for the most correct answers on the scarecrow trail.

In addition, don't forget that there is a Well garage sale on Saturday 26 August - all residents are welcome to take part.  Please let us know by Thursday if you will be taking part, and we will add you to the map.

Good Luck!
